Baby camel is one of those fibres that tends to get described as cashmere-adjacent — and that comparison exists for a reason. The undercoat of a young camel has a fineness and warmth that genuinely rivals cashmere, with the bonus of being slightly more resilient and considerably more affordable. It's not widely available, which makes Camwool a bit of a find.
The blend here is 80% extra-fine merino with 20% baby camel, at sport weight. The merino brings excellent stitch definition and the familiar softness merino is known for; the baby camel adds warmth, a subtle halo, and a luxurious quality that lifts the finished fabric. Together they produce something beautifully light for its warmth — the kind of yarn you'd choose for heirloom knitting or anything you're making to be genuinely treasured.
Sport weight means it's finer than DK but substantial enough to knit with real pleasure. It's a versatile gauge for garments that need to layer well — lightweight sweaters, fine-gauge cardigans, hats and mitts where the softness is as much the point as the finished object.
