100% merino wool that's GOTS certified, machine washable, and soft enough for a baby. The Merry Merino 70 is doing a lot of things right at once.
The GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification means the wool meets rigorous standards across the entire supply chain — from how the sheep are raised to how the yarn is processed. The raw wool comes from Argentina, where the sheep are naturally mulesing-free. It's then spun in Italy, where Kremke works with mills that match their commitment to quality and responsible production.
The "70" refers to the metreage: approximately 70m per ball at a chunky aran weight — the thickest of Kremke's three Merry Merino yarns. Despite the heft, it knits up with a lovely bounce and elasticity that's characteristic of pure merino. The enzyme treatment makes it machine washable on a gentle cycle at 30°C, which removes the main barrier to knitting with merino for anyone who worries about caring for their finished pieces.
This is a genuinely versatile yarn. Sweaters, baby blankets, hats, cowls, mitts — the Merry Merino 70 handles all of them comfortably and knits up quickly at its weight.
