Sock yarn with 10% alpaca sounds like a small addition. It isn't.
Alpaca fundamentally changes the character of a yarn — adding a softness and warmth that wool and nylon alone can't quite replicate, and a subtle halo that makes finished fabric look more luxurious than the price point suggests. Kremke's Edelweiss Alpaka takes everything that makes a reliable sock yarn — durability, stitch definition, machine washability — and elevates it with that 10% alpaca magic.
The result is a yarn that's genuinely versatile. Yes, it makes excellent socks. But the alpaca softness means it also works beautifully for accessories — cowls, mitts, lightweight hats — where you want something next-to-skin soft without sacrificing practicality. Perfectly happy in a washing machine, which is the deal-breaker for a lot of hand-knit gifts.
At 25g per ball, the format is ideal for working multiple colourways in a single project. Browse the current colour selection at Hanks Yarn Parlour — and come in if you want to feel it before you commit, because with alpaca, the squish sells it better than words do.
