Ever wanted to knit a picture into your fabric — actual shapes, bold blocks of colour, a little fox face staring back at you? That's intarsia, and this class is your gateway in.

Intarsia is a colourwork knitting technique that lets you create distinct, solid panels and motifs within a single piece of knitting. Unlike stranded colourwork (think Fair Isle), there's no carrying yarn across the back — instead, you work with a separate bobbin or small ball for each colour section, building up your picture block by block. It sounds more complex than it is, and once it clicks, you'll be plotting pictures into everything.

In this one-evening knitting class in Belfast, you'll learn the core intarsia technique from scratch and put it straight into practice making a cosy hot water bottle cover featuring a dashing fox face motif. By the end of the night, you'll have a solid handle on setting up your colour sections, managing your bobbins, and joining colours cleanly — plus a nearly-finished project to take home and cuddle.

What's included: All materials are provided — yarn and your pattern to keep.

What to bring: A set of 4.5mm or 5mm needles — I recommend straight over circular for this project, as the cord on circulars may get tangled up with your yarn bobbins as you work across the row, but it certainly can be done on either.

Suitable for: Knitters who are comfortable with knit and purl stitches. No colourwork experience needed — that's exactly what we're here for!
